It’s a great time of year to detox. With the holidays a month behind us and spring lurking in our minds, our bodies need some serious reboot and refresh. Here are some tips and tricks we love:
Fridays after work may be time for steak and wine – a little too much wine, and the next day you’ll be regretting it! What we love best at the Hempista offices for detoxing after a little too much fun the day before is: Lots of cool lemon infused water, a bowl of cut oranges, b-vitamins, milk thistle and a brand new product called RecoveryBits.
When the nice folks at NaughtyBits sent us a generous sample to test out for a detox review, we were stunned by the freshness and beautiful green color of this product; a very pure formulation of algae with no fillers or binders. At one calorie a tab these pack a lot of green nutrition that’s great for on-the-go detoxing or pick-me-ups.
Detoxing after a workout is a favorite here too! And this includes any “workout.” Been on your feet all day? You might benefit from a little detox. Lifting weights at the gym? You might want to try detox after working up a sweat.
Try a tablespoon of hemp seed oil and then drink a glass of cool lemon water to lift you back up instead of a bunch of carbs. Hemp seed oil has about 100 calories a tablespoon, is anti-inflammatory and will not raise insulin levels. For added protein, have 2 tbs of raw, shelled hemp seeds for about the same amount of calories.
Herbal teas are a great way to detox too. Try a blend of fresh chamomile with orange peels or apple slices. Think green with whole leaf green teas that supply a big punch of antioxidants that are good for the heart and every organ in the body.
Remember that WATER is the foundation of any great detox regime. Water will make you feel better and even lessens pain. Many of us walk around dehydrated and don’t even know it. If you don’t feel well the first thing to reach for is water and lots of it!
